Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is one of the most breath-taking, mind-blowing and detailed games I have ever played. Ubisoft have gone above and beyond with game. It incorporates history, mythology and adventure which makes this game one of the games added to its already successful predecessor: Assassin’s Creed: Origins.

Summery:

Set during the Peloponnesian War of ancient Greece, the player has the choice of either playing a male or female character named: Alexios and Kassandra. Depending on the player’s choice, the either the male or female character will act as the main antagonist. Besides the combat system and story, the player can interact with numerous NPCs and your interaction with them determines the story. This becomes a player’s “Odyssey” with countless decisions that the player can make effecting the story overall. The story incorporates many famous mythological stories of ancient Greece and flawlessly blends them together.

Playability:

The playability of the game is extremely entertaining from his combat-based system to its parkour-based system even its stealth based system is unique. Personally, what I prefer is its combat-based system. The reason is because of its lifelike structure but there are elements of the combat system which are exaggerated. However, this doesn’t deter from its realism as the player must think and attack accordingly. The player can also customise the player with a huge variety of weapon choice, armour, features. This sense of customisation I find very entertaining as the player and outfit the character in numerous ways.

Graphics:

The Graphics in this game are extremely detailed and the development teams have thoroughly researched Ancient Greece to a tee. The layout of the map itself is also so detailed that even looking at the map itself is enough for you study it for hours. The team has also done a phenomenal job in using “Discoverable area” that they are tied with actual history. For example, this is shown in the representation of Athens, Sparta and other historical landmarks such as Thermopylae, Athens’s Parthenon and the statue of Zeus. However, the only downfall is that the assets used are repetitive and some areas are exact duplicates of others with only minor differences. Although this is to be expected because of the amount of detail that has gone into making this game.

SFX:

The sound effects used in this game are extremely detailed ranging from its voice actors to simple sounds such as footsteps and swords clashing. The voice actors used are extremely talented as their voices capture the essence of the characters themselves. This is shown in the main characters as Kassandra’s voice actor portrays her as nothing short of a badass but also a woman with flaws and emotion. Meanwhile Alexios’s voice actor portrays him as a no-nonsense character, with anger issues and a bad temperament (as the main antagonists). However, the SFX used are incredibly detailed, that personally, it feels so realistic as the player gets a sense of realism while playing this game.

DLCs:

The player also has the choice of buying and downloading various DLC content for the game which I have played. Personally, I find these downloadable contents extremely entertaining and it adds value to the game overall. What I found enjoyable about these DLC contents is the storyline because it adds value to the characters giving more insight to them. The team also did a phenomenal job in incorporating mythological characters such as the Greek gods, Persephone, Hades, Poseidon, Apollo and even mentioning other Greek gods. The team even went as far as introducing historical figures such as Leonidas of Sparta, Kyros of Zarax and even Achilles of Troy. The highlight is how the team has incorporated the beauty and imagination of Greek mythology. They have used this to their advantage and to those familiar with Assassin’s creed lore have tied this popular mythology beautifully with its own lore.

Conclusion:

To gamers who like action, adventure and fantasy, I cannot recommend this game enough. Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey can engulf the player to a world so fanatical but also historical that player may even learn several aspects of ancient Greece they may have not known about. Personally, I think people should buy this game because it has so much things and enjoyable mechanics that the player can play this game for weeks and can still be surprised.
