Dragonball Z: Kakarot
In the late 1980s to the 1990s, from japan, a franchise rose to prominence, taking the world by storm. That franchise was Dragon Ball created by the talented Akira Toriyama and to this day Dragon Ball has influence in many other shows, video games and other media outlets. To this days Dragon Ball has become a state mark in pop culture that its characters are recognised instantly. The game Dragonball Z: Kakarot lets you play and relive the adventure of the Dragon Ball Z series and more.
Summery:
Dragonball Z: Kakarot allows you to relive the Dragonball Z series in all of its glory to the point of nostalgia for player who grew up watching the original series. Unlike previous Dragonball games which where your classic fighting games similar to Street fighter and Tekken. This game provides adventure, action and entertainment. However, the game goes beyond just the series because those who are familiar with the series will recognise addons to the lore. As they can interact with their favourite characters and play through side stories which add a sense of wonder to this highly influential Japanese series. This game is extremely loyal to its original settings, storyline and influence but the side quests added to the game provide a unique take on the game.
Playability:
As the player you can play as a set amount of characters from the series such as Goku AKA Kakarot, Vegeta, Gohan and Piccolo. While this is extremely satisfying and entertaining this is a certain amount of drawback because there are so much characters the player may prefer to play. However, there is a certain reprieve from this drawback is the player can assign support based on the other NPC characters. Although personally I feel that they missed out on a huge opportunity to expand on character development. Fortunately, this doesn’t retract from the fun playability this game provides. You can fly around the world collecting treasure, food and even fight minor enemy types. However, the main problem I do have with this is the constant repetition. This can cause the player to become frustrated with game and based on playing it the game this mechanic does tend to be tedious and annoying at times.
Graphics:
The graphics used on this game are extremely enjoyable to watch and keeping true to form the team who created the content did an excellent job in design, animation and look. True to form, the voice acting both in Japanese and English are the original voice actors. However, the graphics are not to be underestimated as the combat system, which my look simplistic is complex with huge pros and cons. But the nostalgia of this game is on the mark as it recaptures the most memorable moments of the original series. While the storyline is Linear by design, the graphics used from getting A to B is both entertaining and enjoyable to watch.
SFX:
The SFX used in this game in this game are incredible because to the nostalgia that comes with it. The voice acting is extreme nostalgic, the music entertaining and its SFX effect are vibrant. However, there is a constant reputation of the SFX used which, dependant on the use, can be irritating and enjoyable at the same time.
DLCs:
With the Dragonball franchise gaining popularity in recent years, it was unquestionable that a new game would be released. Along with this game DLCs came allowing players to catch up with the up to date events. This adds additional content to the game however from playing it, it only adds more content and a continuation to the story. This is where I feel the DLCs lack. However, this doesn’t subtract with the enjoyment and high paced action which this game delivered.
Conclusion:
Dragonball Z: Kakarot, is a beloved game that keeps to the original storyline drawn and created by Akira Toriyama. As a pop culture icon, this game helps elevates its status by expanding existing content and capturing the story for players to play. Despite the game’s minor setbacks and lack of opportunities the game does provide entertainment. Dependant on the player’s taste this game is fun, high-action paced, filled with content and captures the moments that etched the Dragonball franchise as a world Icon.
